Mark Steudel

Bio: Mark started playing the classical violin at the age of four. Somewhere during highschool he decided that classical guitar was way cooler and he stopped playing the violin. He went on to study classical guitar for a year at Western Washington University. Soon there after he left school and played in a funk band called the Gentleman's Gruvmachine. After lugging his "violin" around for years, he finally figured out that his "violin" was really a fiddle. In 2002 he began instruction from national fiddle champion Pete Martin.

Greg Lawless

Bio: Given that the average life expectancy of a weevil (the insect variety) is a year, and that Greg Lawless was the founding member of the Weavils over a decade ago, we believe that makes him the oldest living weavil in the known universe! Granted it in an honor the equivilent of being the oldest wart in recorded history, but an honor none the less. Greg entertains audiences with his primary instrument, sarcasm, and is also known to play a little banjo.
Instruments: Banjo, Vocals

Mike Karbowski

Bio: When I was born, the doctor thought he was delivering twins. Turns out, I was born with a bass in my hands. I played with the infamous Downhill Singers, a folk group well known in the 60's. My bass sat and collected dust for the next 40 years until Greg noticed the dust ball in the corner and asked if I could play bluegrass. Not knowing that bluegrass was music, I foolishly said I'd give it a try. Now the group is paying for it. When I'm not playing music, I'm putting people to sleep. . . no, not mafia, but anesthesiology. Otherwise I'm on the water fishing.
Instruments: Bass, Train Whistle, Vocals

Bio: UW graduate, recently retired, picked up the guitar about 12 years ago to backup his fiddle playing son. Although his son no longer plays the fiddle, Pete still plays the guitar.

Dave Grout

Bio: As the instrumentally challenged member of the Weavils, I have chosen to create exciting, innovative and dynamic new sounds on the Washboard. Expect a Grammy nomination sometime soon. Also, I enjoy providing vocal harmonies and occasionally crooning a song or two. Musical background goes back to child hood singing in church choirs, school choirs and community choirs through adulthood, as well as trumpet, French Horn, and electric bass during my school years. Really appreciate bubble gum rock and roll, and a good country western ballad or tune from the likes of Marty Robbins, Waylon Jennings or Ed Bruce.
Instruments: Vocals, Washboard, Yodel
